Description
RPM-029 on the 1942-P Jefferson Nickel — Wartime Silver Alloy is a westward repunched mintmark cataloged UVC-039 and DMR-034. The large P mintmark on wartime issues appears above Monticello on the reverse, and RPM-029 shows a secondary P impression displaced to the west of the primary, designated P/P West. The 1942–1945 Wartime Nickels are 35% silver, struck with a large mintmark above Monticello to distinguish them from the standard copper-nickel composition. Three die stages document RPM-029: Stage A (EDS) is confirmed; Stage B (MDS) is unconfirmed pending further specimens; Stage C (LDS) is also unconfirmed. The westward displacement of the secondary impression makes this variety most easily confirmed on EDS examples where both the primary and ghost P are well-defined. Collectors targeting Wartime Nickel RPMs should prioritize Stage A coins for maximum visual impact, as LDS examples may show the secondary impression so faintly that attribution requires comparison against confirmed specimens under high magnification.
