1942 Repunched Mintmark RPM-012

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, the 1942 RPM-012 Jefferson Nickel is a wartime silver alloy issue from the inaugural year of the oversized P mintmark above Monticello. Die markers UVC-021 / DMR-016 track three stages with confirmed observations at every level: Stage A with both reverse and obverse at EDS; Stage B with both at MDS; Stage C with both at LDS. This full documentation without “unconfirmed” notations indicates specimens from all three die states have been positively identified, providing a complete lifecycle record. Struck at Philadelphia in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese, weighing 5.0 grams at 21.21 mm diameter. The wartime composition conserved nickel for military applications, and the oversized P was the first-ever Philadelphia mintmark on any American coin.
