Description

Sharing a westward direction with RPM-002 from the same date, RPM-011 of the 1942-D Mercury Dime is distinguished by different die-specific markers and potentially a different separation between primary and secondary D impressions. When two RPM varieties carry the same directional designation, attribution depends on secondary diagnostics: die scratches, polish lines, die cracks, or minute differences in exact position and angle. RPM-011 is the eleventh cataloged repunched mintmark for the prolific 1942-D, deep into a sequence documenting the sheer number of working dies Denver prepared during wartime. Westward displacement means the initial D punch impression landed left of the final position, and the corrective strike only partially obscured the first attempt. The Mercury Dime's reverse positions the mintmark in a confined area beside the fasces, and the small 17.9mm planchet concentrates all diagnostics into a tight zone.
