Description

Catalogued by VarietyVista with markers UVC-111 and DMR-004, the 1942-D Lincoln Wheat cent RPM-003 is a repunched D mintmark variety progressing through three well-documented die stages. Stage A is Early Die State (unconfirmed). Stage B is Middle Die State and is the most useful for attribution: the secondary mintmark is strong, while the reverse has reached Late-Middle Die State (LMDS). Stage C shows a medium-strength secondary mintmark at Late Die State, with the reverse also at LDS. The diminishment from strong to medium secondary mintmark visibility across stages reflects the gradual filling of the shallower impression through continued die use — a characteristic pattern on RPM varieties.
