Description

From the San Francisco Mint's final pre-war year, this VarietyVista-documented 1941-S Lincoln Wheat Cent tracks the progressive weakening of a lower secondary mintmark alongside developing die cracks. Die markers UVC-101 / DMR-006 cover four stages: Stage A with strong lower secondary mintmark at EDS and reverse at EDS; Stage B with weak lower secondary mintmark at EMDS, die scratch between upper OD of GOD, and reverse at EMDS; Stage C with die crack over V.D.B. at MDS, die crack across shoulder, die crack on lower lapel, and reverse at MDS; Stage D at LDS (unconfirmed). The three concurrent V.D.B., shoulder, and lapel die cracks appearing together at Stage C suggest a stress event that propagated simultaneously through multiple portrait zones. Struck in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1941-S predates the wartime composition changes.
