Description
Documented by VarietyVista, this 1941-S RPM-005 Jefferson Nickel shares the same S/S North direction and MMS-001 (Small mintmark) style as the closely numbered RPM-004, but represents a distinct working die with its own marker fingerprint. Die markers UVC-1768 / DMR-021 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with both reverse and obverse at LDS. The confirmed LDS establishes that heavily worn late-state specimens exist. Composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel, weighing 5.0 grams at 21.21 mm diameter, this was struck at San Francisco in 1941 — the last prewar year before the wartime silver alloy and oversized mintmark transformed the series in mid-1942. The matching direction and punch style between RPM-004 and RPM-005 suggest systematic documentation of San Francisco's die output.
