Error
Description
An S/S Southwest variety using MMS-002 (Large mintmark), this 1941-S Jefferson Nickel was documented by VarietyVista and represents the final pre-war San Francisco issue before the wartime silver alloy was introduced in late 1942. Die markers UVC-524 / DMR-007: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with several light die scratches through UNITED at MDS and obverse at MDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The Large mintmark punch identification (MMS-002) tracks which physical S punch was in service at San Francisco during 1941. Composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1941-S was struck in the last full year before WWII transformed U.S. coinage composition and mintmark practices.
