Description

Fourteenth in the obverse doubled die census for the 1941 Lincoln wheat cent, DDO-014 presents medium spread manifesting as an extra horizontal bar visible above the last T of TRUST in the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. VarietyVista classified this variety under die identifiers UVC-1486 and DMR-016, tracking three progressive die stages: Stage A at early die state (unconfirmed), Stage B where both obverse and reverse surfaces have reached mid die state, and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). The MDS confirmation for Stage B provides collectors with a documented reference point for specimens showing moderate die wear. An important hub detail accompanies this variety — the comment "Full T over Broken T Hub" indicates this die was sunk from a hub that still retained the complete, unbroken final T of TRUST, placed over a position where a broken T hub had previously been used. This hub transition diagnostic is significant because the Lincoln cent obverse underwent subtle hub modifications throughout its production history, and the Full T versus Broken T distinction serves as an independent authentication marker separate from the doubled die characteristic itself.
