1941 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-012
Error
Description
Struck as a proof at Philadelphia, this 1941 Lincoln Wheat Cent DDO-012 displays medium spread as an extra horizontal bar above the last T of TRUST, with a notched lower left corner on the vertical bar and light spread on the 4 of the date. The "Full T over Broken T Hub" designation indicates this die received impressions from different hub states during the transition period when the crossbar of the T in TRUST was modified — a significant hub variety marker documenting the changeover between hub designs. Cataloged under UVC-1484 and DMR-014, Stage A shows both obverse and reverse at early die state, Stage B is unconfirmed at MDS, and Stage C is unconfirmed at LDS. The extra bar above the T is the primary diagnostic, created when a full-crossbar hub impressed over a die that had already received an impression from the broken-crossbar hub iteration.
