1941 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-011

Description

Eleventh in the obverse doubled die census for the 1941 Lincoln wheat cent, DDO-011 exhibits very light spread manifesting as a notched upper right corner of the horizontal bar of the last T of TRUST — a highly localized diagnostic that focuses the doubling evidence on a single design element within the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. VarietyVista assigned identifiers UVC-1483 and DMR-013, tracking three die stages: Stage A at early die state (unconfirmed), Stage B at mid die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C where both obverse and reverse surfaces have progressed to late die state (confirmed). The LDS confirmation for Stage C indicates this die served through extensive production before retirement. The comment "Full T over Broken T Hub" provides critical context for understanding the origin of this doubling: it resulted from the combination of two distinct hub versions — a later hub with a complete (full) T overimpressed onto an earlier hub with a broken or incomplete T — creating the notched appearance at the corner where the two slightly different letter designs overlap. This hub transition doubling is fundamentally different from standard positional hub doubling, as it arises from design variation between hub generations rather than from physical misalignment during a single hubbing event. Victor David Brenner's wheat cent obverse carried TRUST as part of the motto above Lincoln's head, and the horizontal bar of the T — specifically its upper right corner — serves as the diagnostic target.
