1941 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-019

Description

The 1941 Lincoln Wheat Cent WDDO-019 presents two distinct doubling expressions on the obverse that provide solid attribution points. A strong notch is visible on the upper right of the second T in TRUST, accompanied by a short bar that appears above that same T. The lower S in TRUST is also doubled, adding a second confirmation point within the same legend. The Wexler Variety ID is 1941 1¢ WDDO-019. Two die markers assist with attribution. On the obverse, a short diagonal die scratch is present in the field well north of the upper right Y in LIBERTY, positioned west of the bottom of the ear. On the reverse, a strong die gouge runs through the upper left wheat lines and extends into the field north of the wheat ear. The notch on the upper right T in TRUST is the most visually accessible diagnostic and should be the first area examined when screening candidates. Collectors should confirm the bar above the T and the doubled S before finalizing attribution, as these secondary elements guard against misidentification of other minor doubled dies in the 1941 Philadelphia cent population.
