1941 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-015

Description

The 1941 Lincoln Wheat Cent DDO-015 presents a distinctive diagnostic feature: light spread appearing as an extra horizontal bar above the left side of the last T of TRUST. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-1487 with die marriage DMR-017, this variety was struck from the Full T over Broken T hub — a transitional hub state where the original hub with a fully formed T was replaced by one with a broken T, and DDO-015 preserves evidence of the earlier hub's intact crossbar overlapping the later version. The earliest and mid die states remain unconfirmed, while the late die state shows both obverse and reverse in advanced deterioration. Hub transitions of this type — where the replacement hub has slightly different letter characteristics — are among the more fascinating aspects of variety collecting because they document the manufacturing history of the dies themselves. The extra horizontal bar above the T is readily detectable under magnification and provides a clear attribution marker for this variety.
