1941 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-007
Error
Description
Showing strong spread on the digits 41 of the date and the last T of TRUST, the 1941 Lincoln Wheat Cent DDO-007 is one of the more attributable doubled dies from the pre-war era. Cataloged by VarietyVista under UVC-1479 and DMR-009, the doubling concentrates on elements at the lower obverse. Die state progression reveals diagnostic cracks: a crack from the lower lapel running northwest to the shoulder marks Late Die State transition, while a separate crack northeast across the forehead appears in later stages. A notable hub variety attribution accompanies this die: it is identified as a "Full T over Broken T Hub" variety, meaning the obverse hub had a complete T serif in TRUST, distinguishing it from hubs where the T's serif had broken or deteriorated. Three die states are documented: Stage A in Early Die State, Stage B in Mid Die State (unconfirmed), and Stage C in Late Die State. Philadelphia struck over eight hundred eighty-seven million cents in 1941, reflecting massive pre-war economic mobilization that consumed enormous numbers of working dies.
