Description

Listed by VarietyVista as UVC-0194 and DMR-010, this 1941-D Washington Quarter DDO-009 displays light spread on LIBERTY across John Flanagan's classic design. Struck in 90% silver at the Denver Mint on the eve of America's entry into World War II, the 1941-D saw a mintage that would be dwarfed by wartime production in subsequent years. The variety progresses through multiple die stages, with Stage C showing a die crack running across the bust and a separate crack extending from the S of PLURIBUS to the eagle's wing on the reverse. These progressive cracks help collectors identify the die stage of individual specimens and track how the die deteriorated over its working life. Light doubled dies on Washington Quarters require careful examination, as the spread on LIBERTY can be subtle compared to the stronger hub doubling found on some other denominations. The combination of silver composition, early wartime dating, and documentable die progression makes DDO-009 an appealing variety for Washington Quarter specialists who collect by die state.
