1940 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001

Description

Carrying attribution codes UVC-0117 and DMR-005, this 1940 Washington Quarter reverse doubled die shows strong extra thickness across all lettering and design elements — a comprehensive Class VI spread. This reverse is specifically noted as the paired companion to the 1940-P DDO-003 obverse, establishing a distinct die marriage of two simultaneous varieties. Three die stages are documented. Stage A: reverse and paired DDO-003 obverse in early die state. Stage B, middle die state: a crack develops down the eagle's right wing extending to the Q of QUARTER; a crack crosses the bust into the field and behind the queue; a crack crosses the forehead and hair.
