1940 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-010

Description

Light extra thickness on E PLURIBUS combined with light spread on UNUM and the right wheat ear defines this 1940 Lincoln Wheat Cent DDR-010. The doubling affects multiple reverse inscription elements and extends into Victor David Brenner's wheat ear design, indicating the hub displacement was sufficient to create visible separation across a broad area of the reverse die. Die markers include UVC-1449 and die marriage DMR-014. Stage C is the only confirmed die state, with both the reverse and obverse documented in Late Die State. Stage A in Early Die State and Stage B in Mid-Die State remain unconfirmed. Attributed by VarietyVista. The Late Die State confirmation for Stage C suggests that the known specimens were struck later in the die's working life, when accumulated wear and use had progressed the die past its earlier states. Collectors seeking EDS or MDS examples would need to locate specimens struck earlier in the die's production run, which may exist but have not yet been documented and confirmed for this variety.
