1940-D Doubled Die Obverse DDO-001

Description

An extra vertical bar North of the L of LIBERTY accompanied by extra thickness on the date, IN GOD WE TRUST, and LIBERTY marks this 1940-D Lincoln Wheat Cent as DDO-001. Victor David Brenner's obverse, by 1940 already three decades into its service life, continued to produce identifiable hub doubling events at the Denver Mint. Die tracking designations UVC-1454 and DMR-007 provide cataloging reference. Three die stages have been documented: Stage A at early die state (unconfirmed), Stage B with both obverse and reverse at mid-die state, and Stage C where both obverse and reverse reached late die state.
