Error
Description
Holding the primary catalog position for the 1939-S date, this VarietyVista-documented Washington Silver Quarter shows S/S North displacement with the obverse also listed as DDO-003, creating a dual-variety coin. Die markers UVC-0112 / DMR-004: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with die crack through RIBUS of PLURIBUS to AME of AMERICA at LDS, die crack down the eagle's right wing to the leaf above Q of QUARTER, die crack across upper hair and forehead at LDS, and die crack along bust over the designer's initials. The crack spanning from PLURIBUS through AMERICA connects two different inscription groups through a single fracture. Designed by John Flanagan, struck at the San Francisco Mint in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm. The RPM-plus-DDO-003 combination provides collectors two distinct variety classifications from one specimen.
