1939 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-007

Description

Featuring a notable tripled eyelid — with two extra eyelid impressions north and north-northeast above the primary — the 1939 Lincoln Wheat Cent WDDO-007 is one of the more visually compelling doubled dies from this date. The Wexler Team attributed this variety, which is cross-referenced as CONECA 6-O-IV and Coppercoins 1939P-1DO-004, placing it in multiple reference catalogs. Obverse die markers include a die chip on the lower bust above the last vest fold, a die scratch curving east from the top of N in IN to touch the G of GOD, and a die crack running over the designer's initials. On the reverse, a die chip appears as a dot at the lower right of the last S in STATES. The tripling on the eyelid represents a Class IV offset hub doubling where multiple impressions created distinct, separated extra lines rather than simple spread. This combination of strong portrait doubling with well-documented die markers makes the WDDO-007 readily attributable.
