Description
Extreme extra thickness on all lettering and date with a split tail on the 9 makes DDO-004 one of the stronger doubled die obverses for the 1937-S Wheat Cent. Die markers: UVC-1398, DMR-008. Stage A: EDS (unconfirmed). Stage B: MDS (unconfirmed). Stage C: Small dot south of O in GOD at LDS; die chip in lower right wheat grains at MDS. The mintmark sits slightly higher and further west than DDO-001, aiding differentiation. San Francisco struck about 34.5 million cents in 1937. Cataloged by VarietyVista, this variety rewards careful mintmark comparison against other 1937-S DDOs.
