Description

VarietyVista's DDO-008 for the 1937 Lincoln Wheat cent captures medium-strength hub doubling across multiple obverse elements: GOD WE TRUST shows clear spread, while the eyelid and LIBERTY exhibit extra thickness from the overlapping secondary impression. Cross-referenced as UVC-1377 and DMR-011, this variety sits in the middle range of strength among 1937 doubled die obverses — strong enough to confirm under a loupe but not as dramatically separated as the most pronounced examples in the series. Three die stages document the working die's lifespan: Stage A in early die state, where the doubling appears with maximum clarity; Stage B at mid-die state, where initial wear begins to soften the secondary image; and Stage C, where both obverse and reverse reach late die state with advanced deterioration across all design elements. Philadelphia struck 309 million cents in 1937, and the multiple doubled die obverses for the date reflect the statistical likelihood that some percentage of the many hub-to-die impressions involved slight misalignment.
