1936 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001
Error
Description
Cataloged as DDR-001 in the VarietyVista attribution system (UVC-168, DMR-006) and cross-referenced as FS-801, this 1936 Buffalo Nickel presents one of the more visually striking doubling varieties in the series. The spread is strong across UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM, where tripling is visible, and escalates to quadruple on FIVE CENTS and on the buffalo's back legs. Three die stages have been documented. Stage A places both the reverse and obverse at early die state. Stage B advances to mid-die state, adding a light die crack through the upper portion of NITED in UNITED and through ST of STATES, along with a die clash through the L of PLURIBUS and a second die clash mark under the chin. Stage C is cataloged as late die state but its specific diagnostics remain unconfirmed. The FS-801 Cherrypickers Guide cross-reference confirms the variety's established position in the broader doubled die reference literature. The UVC-168 and DMR-006 markers provide the die identification codes used by VarietyVista to track specimens and document die progression.
