Denver produced approximately 16.13 million Mercury dimes in 1936, an improving Depression-era output that generated enough working dies to populate a substantial RPM catalog for this date. Adolph A. Weinman's reverse design had been in production for twenty years by 1936, and the fasces-adjacent mintmark position received its hand-punched D on each working die through the same manual process used since the design's debut in 1916. The northward displacement pattern, appearing on RPM-007 as on several other 1936-D RPMs, suggests that the natural tendency of Denver's mintmark application process during this period positioned the initial punch slightly low, requiring upward correction.
