Fifth cataloged repunched mintmark for the 1936 Denver Mint Mercury Dime, RPM-005 records another southward displacement of the D mintmark — noted as "D/D South" — where the original punch impression is visible below the final accepted position. The 1936-D Mercury Dime was produced in a year that saw the United States gradually recovering from the Great Depression, with mint production levels reflecting improving economic conditions. Adolph Weinman's Winged Liberty Head design, now twenty years into its production run, had become one of the most familiar coins in American commerce.
