Description

Showing medium spread on the date, lower folds of Liberty's gown, and the IN GOD WE TRUST motto, DDO-002 of the 1936-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar presents a multi-element doubled die affecting some of the most prominent obverse design features. Adolph Weinman's iconic striding Liberty design, with its flowing garments and bold forward motion, debuted in 1916 and remained in production through 1947. The medium spread on the lower gown folds targets the detailed drapery cascading from Liberty's advancing figure, where secondary hub impressions created visible displacement in the fabric contours. Attributed by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-043 and DMR-003, three progressive stages have been identified: Stage A in early die state, Stage B at mid-die state, and Stage C in late die state, all currently unconfirmed. The 1936-D was produced at the Denver Mint with a moderate mintage. Struck in 90% silver and 10% copper at 12.50 grams, this Walking Liberty Half Dollar documents medium-strength obverse doubling spanning from the date through Liberty's gown folds to the national motto, affecting three distinct design zones across Weinman's celebrated composition.
