Description
Bearing a D/D Northeast displacement, this VarietyVista-cataloged 1936-D Buffalo Nickel from the Denver Mint awaits specimen submission for new color, high-magnification digital photographs. Die markers UVC-180 / DMR-011: Stage A with a diagonal die scratch through the lower E of FIVE at EDS and obverse at EDS; Stage B with reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The diagonal die scratch through the E of FIVE at early die state provides a distinctive attribution marker for EDS specimens. Struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1936-D had a mintage of 24.8 million pieces. James Earle Fraser's iconic Native American and bison design was in its penultimate production year, as the series ended in 1938.
