1935-S Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

The 1935-S Lincoln Wheat cent WDDR-001 is cross-referenced as CONECA 1-R-VI and Coppercoins 1935S-1DR-001, reflecting its standing as the primary doubled die reverse variety for this San Francisco issue. Extra thickness appears on E PLURIBUS UNUM, both flanking dots, both wheat ears, and the stems — a spread consistent with Class VI rotational doubling. Light separation also shows on both instances of U in UNUM, the top of E in ONE, and the uppermost portion of the right wheat ear. Lincoln Wheat cents are struck in 95% copper bronze. Die markers establish die state: in Stage A, an obverse die scratch runs south-southwest from the lower left of the 9 in the date, and a short gouge extends southeast from the eyelid; by Stage B, heavy abrasion has largely obscured these. The reverse Stage A shows a scratch running east-southeast from the top of E in EPU to the dot, and a second from the lower right of B in PLURIBUS to the second U.
