Description

VAM-7 of the 1934 Denver Peace Dollar holds special significance as a doubled reverse variety from the final Denver issue before the series was discontinued. Discovered by Joseph Feld in October 1998, it is classified under die class 7 III 1 B2e — the Class III designation and B2e reverse sub-classification setting it apart from the typical Class II and B2a assignments. Rated I-3 R-3 for higher interest and scarce but obtainable availability, it is notably more accessible than the R-5 and R-6 varieties dominating Peace Dollar VAM collecting. The doubling concentrates on the right reverse, where letters and rays above and below DOLLAR show clear doubling, while D STATES OF AMERICA and RIBUS UNUM are doubled toward the rim in an outward spread pattern. The D mintmark is a medium-size Type II punch with filled serifs, a diagnostic confirming the die marriage. The 1934-D was struck in limited numbers, and the series saw only one more production year at Philadelphia and San Francisco in 1935 before retirement.
