Description

Showing the D mintmark repunched over itself to the east and south (D/D/D), this 1934-D Lincoln wheat cent is cataloged by the Wexler Team as WRPM-007 and cross-referenced as Coppercoins 1934D-1MM-006. Two distinct die stages have been documented with differing characteristics. Stage A exhibits die gouges south from the lower hairline above the collar on the obverse and a short north-south die scratch right of the upper area of the second U in UNUM on the reverse. Stage B shows only the weaker secondary mintmark to the east on the obverse with no visible reverse markers. The available specimen was circulated, and better examples are needed for definitive photography. Triple repunching with two directional shifts makes WRPM-007 a particularly interesting mintmark variety from the Depression-era wheat cent series.
