Description

The 1934-D Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-004 carries the Cherrypickers' designation FS-504, elevating it above the many unlisted repunched mintmarks in the Wheat cent series. Catalogued by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-043 and DMR-008, the mintmark geometry is D/D North, with the secondary D impression displaced northward of the final mintmark. Three die stages are documented. Stage A (Early Die State) is unconfirmed. Stage B shows the obverse at Light Middle Die State and the reverse at Late Die State, with a die crack forming in the lower right wheat grains. Stage C (Late Die State) is confirmed by a dramatic obverse development: a rim die break extends from K-4 to K-9 — spanning a significant arc of the coin's rim — while the reverse also reaches LDS. The K-4 to K-9 rim die break is a highly visible Stage C marker that makes late-state specimens identifiable even before mintmark examination. Victor David Brenner's wheat ear design, struck at Denver in 1934, provides the familiar portrait. The FS-504 Cherrypickers' recognition confirms RPM-004 as a variety worth actively seeking in dealer inventory and original rolls.
