1930-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-002
Error
Description
The 1930-S Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-002 is a repunched mintmark variety cataloged with die markers UVC-033 and DMR-003, documented across three die stages, and distinguished from the related RPM-001 by a specific positional difference: on RPM-002 the mintmark is set further to the left than on RPM-001, allowing separation by mintmark position as well as by secondary impression direction. The secondary mintmark impression is oriented North — a ghost above the primary S. Stage A documents this in early die state: a light die scratch runs from the upper right of the last T in TRUST, and the reverse is also EDS. Stage B is mid-die state but unconfirmed. Stage C is late die state, also unconfirmed. Identifying the northward ghost impression on early die state examples requires a loupe at the S mintmark position. The 1930-S Lincoln Wheat Cent had a relatively modest mintage compared to Philadelphia issues of that Depression-era year, giving the date added collector interest. The wheat-ear reverse presents the S mintmark in the lower right, accessible for variety examination at standard magnification.
