1930-S Repunched Mintmark WRPM-003

Description

A second documented repunching on the 1930-S Lincoln Wheat Cent working die, the WRPM-003 variety shows evidence of at least one earlier S mintmark punch beneath the final position. This variety is cataloged across the principal RPM reference systems: CONECA lists it as RPM #3, and Coppercoins catalogs it as 1930S-1MM-003. The Wexler Variety ID is 1930-S 1¢ WRPM-003. Within the Lincoln Wheat Cent series, the 1930-S carries key date status, and the existence of multiple distinct repunched mintmark varieties on this date reflects the hand-punching practices of the Philadelphia and San Francisco Mints during the late 1920s and early 1930s. Each working die required individual mintmark application, which introduced variation in both placement and the number of punches required to seat the mintmark properly. WRPM-002 and WRPM-003 represent separate die events and should be attributed independently.
