1929-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

The 1929-D Buffalo Nickel RPM-002 is a D/D East repunched mintmark variety documented by VarietyVista, carrying die tracking codes UVC-090 and DMR-003. The initial mintmark punch was applied and then a second punch was placed slightly to the east, leaving the ghost of the first impression visible to the north-northwest of the final mintmark position. Three die stages have been identified: Stage A represents the EDS (early die state), currently unconfirmed by specimen; Stage B shows both the reverse and obverse in a confirmed MDS (middle die state); Stage C represents the LDS (late die state), also currently unconfirmed. The Buffalo Nickel, designed by James Earle Fraser and struck from 1913 to 1938, carries a portrait of a composite Native American chief on the obverse and an American bison — modeled on Black Diamond at the Central Park Zoo — on the reverse. Collectors are encouraged to submit new high-magnification digital photographs to support stage confirmation for this variety.
