Description
The 1926 Indian Head Quarter Eagle represents a Philadelphia Mint issue from the Indian Head Quarter Eagles 1908-1929 series. With a mintage of 446,000, this is a less common issue. The obverse features a Native American chief wearing a feathered headdress, designed in incuse (sunken) relief — a revolutionary departure from traditional raised relief coinage and the reverse displays a standing eagle on a bundle of arrows with an olive branch. Philadelphia-only production. The quarter eagle was nearing the end of its run. Estimated market value ranges from $866 to $1.2K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 4.18 grams, 18 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7950.
