1925-S VAM-8

Description
David Close discovered this Peace dollar variety, which was subsequently revised in 2011. The 1925-S VAM-8 pairs a II 1 obverse with a B2h reverse, designated Doubled Middle Olive Leaves and Talons, and carries an impact rating of I-2 with a rarity scale of R-4. Two distinct obverse die states have been documented: Die 1 shows light die polishing lines in the left and right fields, while Die 2 displays polishing lines in the left and top fields in a different pattern. The primary obverse die marker is a short horizontal line to the right of the first long ray to the right of the B in LIBERTY. The reverse B2h die exhibits slight doubling along the lower edge of the upper olive leaf, the middle olive leaves, the lower edge of the middle and right talons, and the bottom edge of the rear leg feathers. This clustering of doubled elements across the olive branch and talons points to a hub doubling event that affected the lower portion of the reverse design. As a moderately scarce R-4 variety in the Peace dollar series, the 1925-S VAM-8 rewards patient searching through bags and rolls of this San Francisco issue. =1925-S VAM-8 Doubled Middle Olive Leaves & Talons= Discovered by David Close.
