Description

Notable for documenting a reverse die change during production, this VarietyVista-recorded 1925-S Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-003 tracks mintmark attenuation across two die pairings. Die markers span: UVC-015 / DMR-005 covers Stage A with a strong secondary mintmark at EDS, a die crack from the upper right wheat to rim at VLDS, a die crack from the left wheat tip to E of E PLURIBUS UNUM, and a die crack in lower right wheat. Then UVC-016 / DMR-006 covers Stage B with a medium secondary mintmark at MDS and a reverse die changed to EDS. Stage C shows a weak secondary mintmark at LDS with reverse at MDS. The Stage A reverse reaching VLDS before a fresh reverse was installed demonstrates the original pairing's extended service. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1925-S had a mintage of approximately 28.4 million at the San Francisco Mint.
