Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-014 / DMR-004, this 1925-S Lincoln wheat cent features a repunched S mint mark whose secondary impression strength varies dramatically across three documented die stages. In Stage A, the secondary mint mark is described as strong while the reverse is at mid-die state, offering the clearest view of the repunching. By Stage B, the secondary mint mark has diminished to medium strength as the reverse reaches late die state, as accumulated striking wear gradually obscured the initial impression. Stage C finds the secondary mint mark weak in late die state, with a die crack developing from the lower right wheat ear to the rim, placing the die in very late die state. This progressive weakening of the RPM diagnostic across die stages is a common phenomenon that explains why grade and die state can significantly affect a collector's ability to attribute the variety.
