Attributed by MadDieClashes as TDC-100c-1923S-01, this variety documents a minor clash event on a 1923-S Peace Dollar. A die clash occurs when obverse and reverse dies strike each other without a planchet, transferring incuse impressions of each die's design onto the opposing surface. The clash marks are distributed across both sides. On the obverse, one of the sun's rays is clashed into the field just above Liberty's nose; oak leaves from the reverse eagle design are clashed between the E and R of LIBERTY; and a portion of Liberty's nose is impressed into the field to the right and above the E of ONE. On the reverse, a portion of ribbon from Liberty's hair is clashed into the field above the eagle's right wing. The 1923-S Peace Dollar was struck in large San Francisco numbers, and die clashes are known across the series. The TDC (Typical Die Clash) designation from MadDieClashes indicates standard clash criteria without the complexity of rotated or double clashes.
