Description

Jason Henrichsen discovered VAM-1AC2 in 2010, classifying it as II 1 · B2a, rated I-2 R-6 — X Die Scratches Below Talons, Twin Clash Spikes Eagle's Shoulder, Whisker Chin. On the obverse (II 1), a vertical die crack runs along the chin with small die chips at the top of the chin — the "Whisker Chin" designation reflecting this die crack's appearance. A fine diagonal line passes through the D in GOD. On the reverse (B2a), two separated, long vertical die clash spikes rise from the eagle's right shoulder — impressions transferred from Liberty's head and neck during an unplanchetted strike. At least one specimen has been found with PEACE completely missing from the strike through grease, a dramatic fill-struck example worth noting for census purposes. Peace Dollars use the TRVST spelling in the motto rather than TRUST, and are 90% silver. The R-6 rarity rating places VAM-1AC2 among the genuinely scarce Peace Dollar varieties. The twin clash spikes at the shoulder are the most visually confirming reverse feature and should be prioritized in attribution, with the chin crack providing corroborating obverse evidence.
