Description
1923-P VAM-1B Extra Hair Die Break Discovered by Richard Deters, February 1973. Revised 2006 This coin is a Top 50 Peace Dollar VAM. 1B(revised) II1 - B2a (Extra Hair) I-3 R-6 Obverse II 1 - Long diagonal die break in hair in front of rear hair strands. Reverse B2a - Normal die. Comments: The VAM-1B coin is one of several known peace dollar VAMs with a die break in the hair. Further complicating matters, it has been noted that NGC has attributed some one VAM-1V as the VAM-1B. Fortunately, both breaks are visible to the naked eye so differentiating shouldn't be too difficult. (In NGC's defense, at least one of those attributions was made prior to the VAM-1V discovery and VAM-1B was first designated to group "several variations" of the hair die breaks in the one listing. The "extra hair" 1923-P VAMs include VAM-1B, VAM- 1BK, VAM-1V, VAM-1W, VAM-1Y, VAM-1AA, VAM-1AB 2, VAM-1AE, VAM-1AN2, and VAM-1AR.
