Description
The 1922 Grant Memorial Commemorative Gold Dollar - No Star is a commemorative dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. With a mintage of just 5,000, this is a rare and highly sought-after issue. Issued in 1922 as a companion piece to the Grant Memorial half dollar, commemorating the centennial of Grant's birth. The obverse features a bust of Ulysses S. Grant facing right in military uniform, similar to the companion half dollar, while the reverse displays Grant's birthplace log cabin in Point Pleasant, Ohio. Designed by Laura Gardin Fraser. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 1.7 grams, 14.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7458. The Grant gold dollar is one of the rarest classic commemorative gold coins, with the star variety having a net distribution of just 5,016 pieces and the no-star variety only 5,000. These low mintages make both versions highly coveted by commemorative gold specialists.
