Description
The 1921 Peace Dollar - Sandblasted Antique Finish is a special strike dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Peace Dollars 1921-1935 series. With a mintage of 8, this is an extremely rare issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features a youthful Liberty facing left wearing a radiate crown, designed after sculptor Anthony de Francisci's wife Teresa and the reverse displays a bald eagle perched on a rock above the word PEACE, with rays of sunlight. First year of the Peace Dollar, struck in high relief to commemorate the end of World War I. Only 1,006,473 produced at Philadelphia, making it a sought-after type coin. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Auction record: $129,250 PR64 08-06-2014 Stack's Bowers.
