Description
1921-D VAM-1BL Scribbling Die Scratches #42, Die Scratch O to Bow Ribbon Discovered by Rob Joyce, March 2005. Revised 2015 1BL (revised) IV 1 D2a (Scribbling Die Scratches #42, Die Scratch O to Bow Ribbon) (189) Reverse D2a - Shallow, narrow diagonal die scratch from top of O in DOLLAR up to right wreath bow ribbon and to lower leaf. Fine die scratches in various directions on over polished tail feathers around eagle’s right leg and between eagle’s left wing and body. Diagonal die gouge above O in DOLLAR up to right ribbon bow. Die marker- Diagonal die gouge on fifth outer feather from bottom of eagle's right wing. DPIS – In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: Earlier die states without the gouge above the O, but with matching scribbling scratches (see also 1921-D VAM-1DH, which was eliminated as a duplicate). This earlier die state was submitted to J.B. and resulted in a VAM 1BL1 -- 1BL2 split.
