Error
Description
Discovered by C. Logan McKechnie in July 2003, the 1921-D Morgan Dollar VAM-10 is classified as Class IV position 8, D2f reverse, die pair 189 (Doubled Date, Tripled Left Stars, Doubled Reverse Legend). This three-feature variety combines doubled date digits with tripled left stars on the obverse and doubled reverse legend. The reverse shows STATES OF AMERICA doubled and UNITED and the right star slightly doubled towards the rim. In 1921, dates were part of the master die, so there is no variation in date position across different die pairs from this final year of Morgan Dollar production. The tripled left stars represent a less common multiplicity level, as most documented star varieties show only doubling. The combination of three distinct features makes VAM-10 diagnostically rich, with collectors able to confirm the attribution through independent examination of the date, stars, and reverse legend.
