Description
1921-D VAM-1AU2 Die Gouge N of ONE Discovered by John Kohut, October 2003 (Desirability: image:star4.gif) Renumbered VAM-1AU2, February 2024 1AU2 IV 1 · D2a (Die Gouge N of ONE) (189) Reverse D2a – Fine diagonal die gouge thru lower right side of N up to top left of E in ONE. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: This variety has a long, thin die gouge through the lower right of the N in ONE proceeding upward to touch the corner of the E. The VAM-1AU die gouge has proven to be very elusive in the years since 1921-Ds became a hot VAM collectable. More will surface but the author believes this will continue to be a tough coin to find (R. Joyce). Previously classified VAM 1AL, as described on page 59 of "Fun With 1921". Earlier die stage without gouge now cataloged at VAM 1AU1.
