Reverse D2a - Fine die scratches in various directions on over polished tail feathers around eagle's right leg, between eagle's left wing and body and in middle of eagle's left wing. Die marker - Vertical die scratch thru eighth outer feather from bottom in eagle's right wing. DPIS โ In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: July 2009 Update...Leroy has split this VAM into 2 die stages: one with the dot above the date (1AK2, LDS) and one without the dot (1AK1, EDS). A "dotless" example has been confirmed. A specimen with the dot and without the gouge was confirmed in May 2024, resulting in revision of VAMs 1AK1 and 1AK2. A coin with a gouge and no dot either doesn't exist or is made with a different obverse die.
