1921-D VAM-1AF2 Die Gouge D in DOLLAR Discovered by Larry Briggs, August 2003 Renumbered from VAM 1AF, May 2024 1AF2 (revised) IV 1 · D2a (Die Gouge Below D) (189) Reverse D2a– Diagonal die gouge from rim up to bottom of D in DOLLAR. Fine die scratches in various directions on over polished tail feathers around eagle’s right leg and between eagle’s left wing and body. DPIS – In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: VAM-1AF2 is another 1921-D die gouge located on the lower reverse of the coin. This variety has the gouge intersecting the D in DOLLAR on the lower right side. Left obverse stars are slightly tripled. Die chip at AM not present on all specimens (it looks a lot like a lamination V.S. die chip...). Feed finger gouges are present on the reverse at ST. (JA)
