Sixth reverse cud for the 1920 San Francisco Lincoln Wheat Cent, doubling the earlier known count of three and reflecting ongoing research uncovering new specimens. San Francisco struck approximately 46.2 million cents in 1920, the second year of post-WWI production, and six reverse cuds indicates notable rim failure frequency for this volume. Each cud originates when the die rim — enduring the highest force concentration each press cycle — develops fatigue fractures propagating until a section separates.
