1919-S Type I Counter Clash CCLTI-25C-1919S-01

Description

CCL(TI)-25c-1919S-01 Die clashes from the Standing Liberty quarter are not that uncommon especially from the San Francisco mint. However, this is the first counterclash (type I) seen on this particular series. The first image shows the E from the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM clashed beside Liberty’s right knee. It is evident that two clash events occurred, offset from each other as seen in the second image. The folds of Liberty’s gown can be seen clashed through the US of PLURIBUS. Notice the offset position between the two clash events as one pass through the letter U and the other through the letter S. The second clash event transferred the E of E PLURIBUS UNUM back to the reverse of the coin since it was now an accidental design feature on the obverse. Notice the spacing between the original E and the transposed E from the obverse. That spacing is the same as the spacing of the folds seen through PLURIBUS.
