Description

With the Armistice signed in November 1918, the 1919-D Lincoln Wheat Cent was struck in the first full year of peacetime — yet Denver Mint production infrastructure still bore the marks of wartime intensity, and this first documented reverse rim cud for the date reflects ongoing die stress during the transition. A rim cud forms when a die rim section fractures completely, separating from the die body and leaving a void that fills with metal under striking pressure to produce a raised featureless mass on the finished coin. The "R" suffix places this cud on the Wheat Ears reverse side.
